TWO EXHIBITS
Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage
The first major HMFA museum exhibition devoted to exploring the breadth and complexity of Black identity and experiences in the United States through collage. Works by multiple generations of living artists examine concepts such as cultural hybridity, gender fluidity, historical memory, and notions of beauty and power.
Kehinde Wiley: An Archaeology of Silence
Wiley, one of the world’s most celebrated contemporary artists, created this body of work against the background of the pandemic and the global rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. The works in An Archaeology of Silence stand as elegies and monuments, underscoring the terms in which Black people are seen and heard.
